  • President's Message - January 2018
    Updated On: Jan 30, 2018
    JOHN RIVERA, PBA President

    What an Honor

Throughout my years I have had the pleasure and honor of working with some of the hardest working and most talented people around. However, there is a smaller group within that small grouping of people and they are at the PBA.

You have no idea of how lucky we are, as a collection of law enforcement officers, to have these special extraordinary few at the PBA. I have had that honor that few can claim in their lifetime. The spectacular benefits that will be enjoyed for years to come, the laws created and authored that will be on the books for infinity, and the case laws that will be referred to long after each of us is gone from this earth is something I will cherish until my last breath. Quite honestly, you should too.

I thank those who worked so hard to make the PBA the most powerful union in the State of Florida, and certainly one of the most powerful and best in the nation. I thank those who didn’t just make this an 8-hour day and those who stayed late insuring that our members’ needs were taken care of, even if it oftentimes went unnoticed by those who weren’t around. Each of you, and you know who you are, is a special person that has enriched the lives of others. No one can ever take that away from your soul.
I love you and always will. Thank you.

    Happy New Year

As the New Year rings I ask this of all the members: be safe, truly watch out for each other, don’t settle for the status quo, know and defend your rights and do what you must to return to your loved ones each and every day.

It has been an honor representing you, the communities’ heroes and even though it took me away from many family functions and was of colossal sacrifice, I’d do it all over again. Besides, going against those who abused their power and/or hated cops was actually fun.
